Global online hotel service provider Hotels.com has unveiled the world’s most affordable destinations for buying Christmas gifts. Taiwan emerged from 29 countries as the most cost-effective place to shop for holiday presents. Among the top ten countries, seven are in Asia, indicating that consumer prices in Asian markets are generally lower than those in Europe and the United States.

Hotels.com selected 13 popular global items as this year’s Christmas gift wish list, including the iPad Air, iPad with retina display, ladies' genuine leather gloves, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Eau de Toilette (75ml), Calvin Klein socks, iPhone 5S, Chloe by Chloe Eau de Parfum (75ml), Spider-Man lunchbox, Susan Boyle's 'Home for Christmas' album, Barbie Dreamhouse, Season 7 of 'How I Met Your Mother', Levi's 501 jeans (men's straight leg), and the complete Harry Potter novel series (volumes 1–7). The average prices from three retail locations in each of the 29 countries were converted to New Taiwan Dollars to serve as a reference guide for consumers shopping for Christmas gifts.

The survey results show that Taiwan has the lowest average price at NT$43,323.91, making it the most budget-friendly place in the world for Christmas gift shopping. Japan and Argentina followed closely behind with average prices of NT$60,933.91 and NT$61,168.49, respectively. The countries ranking 4th to 10th are South Korea, Thailand, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Canada, India, and Singapore. Brazil was found to be the most expensive city for Christmas shopping globally, with an average price of NT$140,978.65—NT$54,558.63 higher than the global average of NT$86,420.02.
