To cater to Chinese tourists, many tourist spots in Thailand have recently started providing Chinese translations. Though well-intentioned, they sometimes leave people "seeing without understanding." The Facebook group"Taiwanese in Thailand: Ridiculous News Chronicles"recently shared various "bizarre translations" from the area—for example, seeing "Talent" being sold at a souvenir shop, where the original term "Natural Gift" likely referred to natural or eco-friendly souvenir items; yet the shop directly translated it as "Talent," which caught their eye and made them ask, "How much is it? I’d like to buy some.""How much is it? I’d like to buy some."Moreover, they also saw "Hokkien Noodles" and "Wild Rice Noodle Solutions" at a department store food court, laughing and saying, "Feels like even translating toast couldn’t capture this kind of unique charm!"

The admin of "Taiwanese in Thailand: Ridiculous News Chronicles" recently visited a souvenir shop at Central Festival Samui (Chaweng Beach, Thailand), where they saw a sign that read "Talent & Souvenirs." The original phrase, "Natural Gift," should have referred to natural-style souvenirs; however, the shop literally translated it as "Talent," which caught their attention and made them ask, "How much is it? I’d like to buy some."

Bizarre translations in Thailand don’t stop there. The admin also recently shared classic examples seen at the Maya Department Store food court, such as "Meat Noodles" (yellow noodles), which were brought over by early Fujian immigrants. In Thai, they’re called 0+!5H (Hokkian Noodle). Translating it as "Fujian Noodles" would’ve been more natural, but instead, it was rendered as"Hokkien Noodles,"leaving people utterly confused.

However, they mentioned that "Hokkien Noodles" was still somewhat understandable. Another shop, selling Thai seafood soup paste, offered items like"Squid Noodle Soup Zhang Zhixian" and "Zhang Zhixian’s Shrimp Paste,"which made them burst out laughing,"All of them are just random and make no sense."They had no idea who "Zhang Zhixian" was. "Perhaps the owner’s name is Zhang Zhixian? Because the Thai name gives absolutely no hint at all."

Even more mind-blowing was the menu at another stall: "Yogurt Pairing," "Water Snake Noodles," "Wild Rice Noodle Solutions," and "Liquid Noodle Curry." The admin was dumbfounded and said, "Feels like even translating toast couldn’t capture this kind of special charm!Must’ve been some flavored hash brownie (brownie) they were eating!" Other netizens who saw this commented that they had tried the so-called "Yogurt Pairing" and found it pleasantly spicy and tangy, leaving everyone curious about what exactly went into the dish.
