According to surveys conducted by the Taipei City Tourism Service Center over the years regarding the travel purposes of visitors to Taipei, both domestic and international tourists enjoy coming to Taipei to admire flowers, sample night market delicacies, take in the night views, ride the Maokong Gondola at Maokong, and enjoy tea. In response, the Department of Information and Tourism has planned and recommended 3 travel routes: “Exploring ‘Cat’ Fun in Taipei,” “Waterfront Riverside Happy Cycling Trails,” and “Grass Mountain Eco Time Tunnel,” allowing everyone to go on spring outings during holidays, enjoying the leisurely joy of getting close to mountains and water.
The Department of Information and Tourism especially recommends families with young children to try the “Exploring ‘Cat’ Fun in Taipei” route. Start your day with a visit to the Taipei Zoo to see the adorable giant panda cub “Yuan Zai,” the “Formosan Black Bear,” and other native animals. The zoo also features a lovely animal area where children can get up close with the animals. At the Zoo Station of the Maokong Gondola, you can even take the Hello Kitty-themed gondola to Maokong Station. Nearby, the Camphor Tree Trail has gently sloping paths surrounded by tea plantations and terraced fields. Early April is the season for lupines, making it a perfect spot for a spring walk and sightseeing.

The “Waterfront Riverside Happy Cycling Trails” route is ideal for energetic travelers. Start by taking the Tamsui Line of the Metro to Yuanshan Station, then enjoy the floral displays at the Taipei Flower Expo Park before transferring to a bus to reach Dajia Riverside Park for a relaxing stroll. After soaking in the fragrance of flowers, plants, and trees, you can take a ferry along the Blue Highway to tour the riverside scenery — be sure to check the daily tide conditions with the shipping operator beforehand. And of course, no riverside park visit is complete without a bike ride. Taipei City and New Taipei City have launched an integrated rental service, allowing you to rent a bicycle in one city and return it in another, plus they’ve added roadside assistance services. Both cities’ riverside parks provide basic repair tools and first aid kits for public use free of charge.
Additionally, you can also depart from Jiantan Station on the Tamsui Line of the Metro and head to Yangmingshan for a “Grass Mountain Eco Time Tunnel” journey. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Yangmingshan National Park, experience forest bathing, breathe in the phytoncides, and visit Zhuzihu to admire the blooming calla lilies, even picking them yourself for a taste of farm life. Next, head to Lengshuikeng for scenic views, and the lush green grasslands of Qingtiangang are the top choice for a leisurely outing, offering breathtakingly open vistas that are incredibly relaxing. Then, treat yourself to a meal at one of Yangmingshan’s featured landscape restaurants to fully satisfy both body and soul.
