Summer should be all about sunshine, sandy beaches, singing your heart out, and feasting on fresh seafood!
The Tainan City Government is hosting a series of events under “Tainan Summer Sea Paradise.” On the morning of July 9th, a joint press conference for the “Qigu Seafood Festival & Mashagou Music Festival” was held in the first-floor lobby of the Minzhi Municipal Government Center. Attending the event were Mayor Lai Qing-de, Vice Mayor Yan Chun-zuo, Tainan City Council Speaker Lai Mei-hui, Director Lü Deng-yuan of Taijiang National Park, Director Zheng Rong-she of the Cloud-Tainan-Kan South Coastal National Scenic Area Administration under the Ministry of Transportation and Tourism, Magistrate Li Zhu-yi of Sihzou County, distinguished guests, and representatives from local industry associations, officially kicking off this summer’s series of exciting activities for the public to enjoy the sea, food, and fun to the fullest.

The joint press conference kicked off with a cool light-themed musical performance by the well-known independent band Kyra RAY. The audience also got an exclusive sneak peek at the highlight reel of the microfilm “Qigu’s Story,” directed by award-winning director Ah Mu (Chang Mu-chieh), who has won the Little Golden Bell Award. This was followed by a shadow puppet show performed by students from Hougang Elementary School, national champions in creative puppetry, who charmingly and humorously presented the “Seven Treasures of Qigu.” Seven local seafood experts also treated the crowd to tastings of seven different types of seafood.
In addition, local Tainan celebrities Fang Shun-ji and Wei Jia-yu, along with producer Teacher Huang Wen-long, were present to introduce their newly released album “Love of Salt Mountain” together with District Chief Zhuang. They also announced that 300 free CDs would be given out to locals on July 12th at 2 PM, the opening day of the Qigu Seafood Festival. Finally, all the officials and distinguished guests revealed the star-studded lineup for the summer highlight event—the “Mashagou Music Festival,” inviting everyone to Tainan this summer to enjoy a feast for the eyes, taste buds, and ears all at once.

“Tainan Summer Sea Paradise” is one of Tainan’s three major summer themes this year, alongside Taiwan’s only “One Sight, Double Sculptures Art Festival” and the nationally renowned “Qigu Seafood Festival.” In addition to the ever-popular razor clam digging experience, this year also marks the debut of a Qigu microfilm and theme song, combining the area’s rich ecological resources with cultural creativity to offer a unique perspective on Qigu’s beauty. The grand finale, the “Mashagou Music Festival,” is set to rival the excitement of the Kenting Music Festival.

Director Lü of Taijiang National Park Administration also invites the public to visit the Qigu Liukong Visitor Center from July 12th to 13th to experience a variety of non-motorized, pollution-free watercraft (such as canoes and SUP paddleboards) and to learn more about the area’s unique ecological landscapes, spreading awareness about ecological conservation. This summer, Tainan offers a series of fun and exciting Sea Paradise activities, and we warmly invite everyone from across the country to come and experience Tainan’s vibrant summer vibes!
