In Hokkaido during summer, there’s more to enjoy than just lavender. The “Kitauracho Sunflower Village,” located in Kitauracho, boasts up to 1.5 million sunflowers, making it the largest sunflower field in all of Japan. The viewing season runs from mid-July to late August. The 29th “Sunflower Festival” will be held from July 18 to August 23, 2015, featuring a giant sunflower maze and sightseeing buses. The sunflowers bloom on the eastern-facing slopes, and on sunny mornings, the beautiful golden hues shine even more vibrantly under the sunlight.
