One of the year’s three major meteor showers, the Perseid meteor shower, is set to arrive on Thursday, August 13. It is estimated that you may have the chance to see up to a hundred meteors streaking across the night sky in an hour — a truly romantic sight. Since the date coincides with a time close to the new moon, stargazing will not be affected by moonlight. After 10 p.m., once the constellation Perseus rises, you’ll be able to witness this most spectacular summer fireworks show.

The Perseid meteor shower occurs at a fixed time with a stable number of meteors, and it happens to take place during the summer vacation, making it very popular. Its characteristics include meteors of moderate speed, medium to bright brightness, often leaving persistent trails, and it is the meteor shower with the highest number of fireballs seen in a year. The Perseid meteor shower is active from July 17 to August 24. The closer it gets to its peak date (August 13), the more meteors you can see.

Taipei Astronomical Museum states,the best viewing time is after 10 p.m. on August 12 or 13 until dawn the next morning, with dozens of meteors visible per hour; however, the International Meteor Organization (IMO) forecast suggests:the period from the evening of August 12 to before dawn on August 13 is likely to be the best time.
