Although early autumn has just arrived, the weather shows no signs of cooling down. There’s no better way to enjoy such weather than with a refreshing pint of beer. Located near Yushima in Tokyo, a teahouse operated by the century-old hotel “Ryumeikan,” called “1899 OCHANOMIZU,” has launched a limited-time “Matcha Beer Garden.” Combining their own products with beer, it brings out the spirit of tea. The event features six uniquely flavored beers for all-you-can-drink, including three matcha beers. For beer lovers, this is a special experience not to be missed.

Among the six free-flowing beers, there are three craft beers that blend the aroma of wheat with the subtle bitterness of matcha, available for unlimited consumption. These can be paired with various bar snacks featuring creative tea-inspired dishes. Options include golden fries with matcha, sencha, and hojicha—the three classic tea flavors—matcha silken tofu salad, tea soba noodles, sliced meat braised in sencha and topped with rich matcha miso sauce, and pudding served with matcha honey. Each dish showcases the charm of traditional Japanese teas. Before the hot weather completely fades, head to this century-old inn and enjoy a uniquely flavored matcha beer to cool off.
