The Yuanlin Urban Railway Elevated Project, aiming to enhance the local identity and diversity of the new Yuanlin Station, specially invited internationally acclaimed artist Yayoi Kusama to incorporate local elements of Yuanlin into the creation of a new public art installation — “I Set Off in My High Heels to Meet My Boyfriend,” which was unveiled on the 24th, giving the public a chance to experience the master's artwork up close.

In addition to its exterior design, which transforms the imagery of trees and bamboo baskets into concepts of “lightness,” “simplicity,” and “modernity” to reflect Yuanlin’s unique local character, the new Yuanlin Station also features public art that integrates local flowers, the abundant fruit produce of Baishan, the footwear industry of Fuxing, and the fan-shaped train depot of Taiwan Railways. The result is a station designed to inspire romance. On the east side in front of the station, international art master Yayoi Kusama created “I Set Off in My High Heels to Meet My Boyfriend,” using her signature polka-dot motif to design the high heels and the flowers above, rendered in vibrant hues to express the excitement of a girl in love. Inside the station, other artworks include Huang Jingyong’s “Embracing Hope” in the station hall, Guo Guoxiang’s “Time-Space – Bloom” on the staircase from the hall to the second-floor concourse, Liao Xiuling’s “Tactile Memory” in the waiting area, and Guo Guoxiang’s “Forest Life – Fun” on the platform pillars. These five pieces convey feelings of love, transforming the station into not just a transportation hub, but also an art sanctuary and a “Yuanlin-flavored” cultural attraction — a place where memories of love are made.
