Known as the "Jiuzhaigou of Japan," the Five-Color Ponds is a renowned tourist attraction in Fukushima Prefecture, located on the northern foothills of Mount Bandai in the Bandai Highland, and is part of Bandai-Asahi National Park. Due to the volcanic activity in the Bandai Highland, the area is dotted with hundreds of lakes of varying sizes, where tranquil waters form a serene and picturesque destination.

The Five-Color Ponds is the most mysterious and enchanting corner of the Bandai Highland, consisting of dozens of ponds scattered among the forests between Koganegaura Pond and Akimoto Pond. The mineral content in the lake water varies, with concentrations constantly changing due to springs, and factors such as light, water plants, and plankton further interact to give the Five-Color Ponds their mystical and beautiful hues of emerald green, sapphire blue, coffee brown, deep purple, and more—truly mesmerizing. The best season to visit is autumn, when the lakeshores are covered in red foliage that mirrors the crystal-clear waters, creating a dreamlike scene reminiscent of a painting.
