The beech trees on Tai Ping Mountain don their autumn hues, drawing visitors with golden beauty

After October each year, the Formosan beech trees in the Tai Ping Mountain National Forest Recreation Area are at their most beautiful time of the year. The colors of the mountains gradually change as the Formosan beech puts on its autumn attire — the green leaves turn golden, creating a stunningly poetic sight that draws large numbers of tourists to the mountains to admire the fall foliage.

The beech trees in the Tai Ping Mountain National Forest Recreation Area begin turning yellow from mid-October to November each year. By entering via the trail next to the Cui Feng Mountain Villa and ascending along the approximately 3.85-kilometer-long Formosan Beech Trail, visitors can enjoy the rare and precious sight of beech trees — glacial relicts — in this area. The Tai Ping Mountain Forest Recreation Area has Taiwan’s largest original beech forest, covering around 1,100 hectares. In the autumn, the vast, poetic golden landscape is truly enchanting.

Meanwhile, the main route to the Formosan Beech Trail within the park — the Cui Feng Scenic Road — is subject to congestion every year due to its location in an ecological conservation zone that is under mountain access control. To alleviate traffic jams, dynamic vehicle quotas for up to 200 small vehicles will be enforced daily on Saturdays and Sundays from now until November 15 at the entrance of the Cui Feng Scenic Road. Once the 200-vehicle limit is reached, apart from shuttle buses and official vehicles, no other vehicles will be allowed to enter the area.
