The Wanjin Christmas Light Show Unveiled Early, Showcasing the Wonders of Pingtung’s Four Seasons

December brings a wave of Christmas spirit to the streets, with its signature red-and-green palette and festive installations creating a joyful holiday atmosphere. The much-anticipated Wanjin Christmas Light Show kicked off on the 10th this year. The light show opened with Genesis and specially incorporated major seasonal festivals in Pingtung, including the Black Tuna Festival, Mango Season, Wild Ginger Flower Festival, Harvest Festival, Sichongxi Hot Spring Festival, and Hakka Cannon Fort Challenge, highlighting the distinct charms of Pingtung across all four seasons.

The Wanjin Christmas Light Show uses the century-old facade of the Wanjin Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary as its projection screen. Through cutting-edge light projection technology, it showcases Pingtung’s rich cultural heritage, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. This year’s show integrates local specialties and cultural festival elements, offering audiences a chance to discover Pingtung’s diversity through light and shadow. The light show begins with sacred and solemn religious tales before transitioning into the changing scenes of Pingtung across seasons. In spring, the meeting of Donggang black tuna and sakura shrimp is featured, alongside a visit to Fangshan’s Mango Season to witness the harvest season. Summer invites travelers to bike through the Wild Ginger Flower Season or join the bountiful Manzhou Flying Fish Festival and indigenous Harvest Festivals. As autumn turns to winter, the soothing waters of Sichongxi Hot Springs offer respite, while the year draws to a close with celebrations in Hakka villages, where the Cannon Fort Challenge welcomes the new year. The grand finale is Pingtung’s heartwarming Christmas season, where the Wanjin Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary transforms into a dreamy wonderland. Through ever-changing lights and sounds, a vibrant Christmas ambiance unfolds, aiming to deliver blessings through spiritual renewal — may everyone welcome new happiness in the coming year.

The Wanjin Christmas Season officially launched on December 10th with the lighting ceremony and will run every Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM until December 24th. Each show lasts 10 minutes. To accommodate religious activities at the Wanjin Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the schedule varies daily and may be adjusted based on onsite conditions.A special performance will also take place at 11:50 PM on Christmas Eve, December 24th.
