Besides Kaohsiung, New Taipei City’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems is steadily advancing the construction of Tamsui Light Rail, and has unveiled the first prototype train, the “Sky Blue Warrior.” Its sky blue exterior and design represent the imagery of Tamsui’s blue skies and waterfront ambiance. The train is expected to be fully assembled by November 2015. Phase 1 of the Tamsui Line will extend from the MRT Dongshan Station to the Tamsui New Town, while Phase 2 will run from MRT Tamsui Station through the Tamsui Old Street to the Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf, making Tamsui travel more convenient. The project is expected to be completed progressively starting from 2018.

In addition to Tamsui Light Rail being Taiwan’s second light rail line, there are plans for the Ankeng Light Rail in the future. Light rail integrated with MRT systems will make transportation more convenient, reshape urban landscapes, and boost local tourism benefits.
