Plum blossoms in full bloom in Chiayi, creating a snow-like fairyland

Recently, successive cold fronts have brought a slight chill, while also ushering in the peak blooming period of plum blossoms at Chiayi’s Meishan Park. As of the 10th, about 50% of the plum blossoms have bloomed, and it is expected that they will all be in full bloom by late January, covering Meishan in a blanket of snowy white blossoms. During the plum blossom season, visitors to Meishan Park can not only enjoy the flowers but will also find street performances and tea-tasting activities scheduled on weekends, making the trip even more enriching.

Located in Meishan Township, Chiayi County, Meishan Park has been planted with plum trees since the Japanese colonial period. After renovation, it now features a complete circular walking path, pavilions, viewing platforms, and other facilities, making it a prime plum blossom viewing spot in southern Taiwan. Unlike typical plum blossom viewing sites, Meishan Park is adjacent to downtown Meishan and is only about 5 kilometers from National Freeway No. 3 (Meishan Interchange), offering very convenient access. The park covers an area of 6 hectares and is home to about 3,000 plum trees, which typically bloom between December and February of the following year.

Aside from the famous plum blossoms, the park also plants a variety of other flowers and trees such as peach, plum, peony, azalea, and poinsettia, giving the park a different look in each season and making it well worth a visit.
