Taipei Spring Festival Walk & Prayer Trip – Auspicious Itineraries for a Blessed New Year

The annual Lunar New Year, a time for family reunions, is just around the corner. With a 9-day holiday, Taipei City’s Department of Information and Tourism has specially curated a prayer-themed itinerary titled “Taipei Monkey-Cheek Lucky New Year Tour.” Visitors to Taipei can follow this itinerary to pray for blessings in the new year and soak up the festive atmosphere.

Upon arriving in Taipei, a good first stop is Cisheng Temple in Dadaocheng for prayers. Cisheng Temple, dedicated to Mazu, also known as the Dadaocheng Mazu Temple, venerates Mazu, the traditional sea goddess and one of Taiwan’s most widely worshipped deities. Many people visit Mazu temples during the Lunar New Year to pray for family safety and well-being in the coming year.

Next, head to Dalongdong Bao’an Temple. Recognized for its outstanding efforts in preserving and restoring Taiwan’s cultural heritage, the temple has been honored with the Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. Aside from praying, don’t miss the exquisite traditional murals painted by national treasure-level artist Pan Lishui, which depict historical tales and virtues such as loyalty, filial piety, chastity, and righteousness, and hold high artistic value.

Then you can visit Taipei’s Confucian landmark — the Confucius Temple. On February 8th, the first day of the Lunar New Year from 10 AM to 2 PM, there will be a “Calligraphy Blessing Card Activity” where calligraphy masters will be on-site. You can ask them to write your name and new year wishes on a card to pray for happiness and good fortune in the coming year.
