At 14:30 on July 21, 2013, the Xiamen University Mountaineering Association and a joint mountaineering team from Taiwan’s Sun Yat-sen University held a departure ceremony for their 2013 mountaineering activity on the second floor of the Ziqin Building at Xiamen University. The mountain to be climbed during this activity is Mt. Qiangsanglamu. After more than a month of planning and preparation, the mountaineering activity officially kicked off.

The departure ceremony was attended by nearly 100 people, including members of the mountaineering association, media reporters, and representatives of sponsors. The advance team of the mountaineering expedition will depart on July 27. During the ceremony, the team leader spoke about the purpose and significance of the climb.
According to the team leader, the climbing team consists of 15 members—12 men (including 2 from Taiwan) and 3 women. With safety as the top priority and high-altitude ice and snow technical training as the main goal, they plan to climb Mt. Qiangsanglamu (elevation 6,325 meters), located at the border between Jiangzi County in Shigatse Prefecture and Langkazi County in Shannan Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region. With assistance from the Tibet Mountaineering Association, the climbing team has engaged four certified high-altitude guides to instruct members in safe climbing practices and provide mountaineering technical training. In addition, six experienced veterans, including team captain Wu Xiaoyin, will assist the guides in successfully completing the expedition.

The team leader also pointed out that Mt. Qiangsanglamu, with an elevation of 6,325 meters, has its base camp at 4,800 meters, resulting in a climbing elevation gain of 1,525 meters. The difficulty level is moderate, with a long snow line and glacial zones, making it suitable for beginners to practice ice and snow techniques. For those who participated in the 2012 winter ice and snow technical training in Beijing, this activity offers a valuable opportunity to improve their ice and snow skills and is of great significance for the technical development and knowledge transfer within the mountaineering association.
