Danang, a popular travel destination that has soared in fame in recent years, is the largest city in central Vietnam and the gateway to the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Imperial City of Hue and the ancient town of Hoi An. This resort destination boasts incredibly blue waters and soft, fine sandy beaches, and has been recognized by UNESCO as one of “the world’s six most beautiful beaches.” For those wanting to experience the charm of a French-style mountain town, you can take the world’s longest cable car to Ba Na Hills (also known as Bana Hills). Traveling from Danang to Hue will kick off your journey through World Heritage Sites. Once the capital of three Vietnamese dynasties, Hue stands as the best testament to Vietnam’s absorption of Chinese culture. Despite the ravages of war, the outline of the Imperial City remains majestic and grand. From the outside in, the city features walls, a moat, palaces, temples, and gardens… all arranged in a complete layout that rivals China’s Forbidden City. In front of the palace square, you can also take a ride in a rickshaw to tour and admire the scenery. After visiting the Imperial City, you can also explore the Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh to catch a glimpse of the beauty of an underground palace.

Hoi An Ancient Town, another UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside Hue, is also a must-visit attraction in central Vietnam. During the Champa Dynasty, Hoi An was already a major trading hub connecting Vietnam with China, India, and Arabia. During the Nguyen Dynasty, many Japanese came here, and later, it attracted Chinese settlers as well. The mingling of multiple cultures created a unique style of its own. Hoi An’s Fujian Assembly Hall, the Japanese Covered Bridge, and the lanterns that illuminate the town after dark are all iconic representations of the ancient town’s charming allure.
