Reporters learned from the organizing committee of the 9th China Huangshan International Mountain Climbing Festival on the 13th that registration has closed, with a total of 3,000 mountain climbing enthusiasts signing up for the event. Among them, 170 foreign athletes from 56 countries including Russia, the United States, Germany, Australia, South Korea, and India registered to participate, setting a new record for all previous editions.
According to Fang Biyun, executive director of the event’s organizing committee, since the registration for this mountain climbing festival started on October 15, 2013, it has drawn attention from mountain climbing enthusiasts around the world. By the end of registration, a total of 3,000 participants from 127 teams across Russia, the United States, Germany, Australia, South Korea, India, and 12 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China had signed up, marking the highest number of participants in the history of the festival. Among them, 170 foreign athletes from 56 countries participated, making it the edition with the most participating countries since the event’s inception. A total of 19 universities, including the University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing Tech University, Hohai University, Zhejiang University of Technology, and Anhui Normal University, formed teams to take part.
It is introduced that this mountain climbing festival is scheduled to take place on November 18, 2013, in the Huangshan Scenic Area. Starting from the multifunctional square at the South Gate of Huangshan, the route will go through the Cloud Valley Temple and end at the North Sea Square at an altitude of over 1,600 meters, covering a total distance of approximately 12 kilometers. Both team and individual awards will be presented.
It is reported that the China Huangshan International Mountain Climbing Festival was first held in 2005, and this year marks its ninth edition. The previous edition attracted mountain climbers and enthusiasts from over 40 countries and regions. This year’s festival is jointly organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of China’s General Administration of Sport, the China Mountaineering Association, the Anhui Provincial Sports Bureau, and the Huangshan Municipal People’s Government, and is hosted by the Huangshan Scenic Area Management Committee, among other units.
