On November 30, 2013, Huai Bei International Ski Resort successfully hosted the “Huai Bei TNF Ski Park Opening Show” event. Nearly 100 participants registered for the activity.
The competition venue was sponsored by THE NORTH FACE and designed and built by veteran rider xfox and his team. This year, the scale of the park jumps at Huai Bei has doubled overall, with more complete and safer landing slopes, as well as more rational placement of obstacles and jumps. There are also free lessons on weekends, allowing both veterans and rising stars in the scene to gather here for practice and learning.
The event was organized by Huai Bei International Ski Resort, co-organized by Yidong Ski, and sponsored by Snowy Peak Huahua Company, Whitelabel, The North Face, GDRSPORT, Action Ski Gear, Fengren Ski Gear, Lengshan Ski Gear, GIRO, and Ashbury.
The competition officially began at 11:00 AM, with many top riders in attendance, including Wang Lei, Zhang Wei, Zhu Hong, Uncle Qiu, Zi Jian, Gu Tou, Bao Zi, Feng Zi, Xiao Nuan, as well as international friends Peter, Sherban, Nate, and other skiing newcomers. Nearly 40 participants took part in the morning snowboard jam session, where all contestants freely chose jumps and obstacles within one hour to perform their tricks, with judges scoring based on their runs. Competitors showed off their best moves, with Wang Lei’s Frontside Rodeo being nearly flawless, Nate performing difficult tricks on all obstacles and jumps in the park, and Shenyang’s Feng Zi becoming the first to land a high-difficulty obstacle, the Waterfall Rail, along with a flip on the jump. 18-year-old rising star Zhang Jiahao made rapid progress, landing 360 and 540 spins on several jumps. The top three winners of the snowboard jam session were Nate, Feng Zi, and Zhang Jiahao, who received a season pass with their own gear for the 2013–14 Huai Bei ski season, a Whitelabel Pocket U30 HD camera, and a Movement helmet provided by Snowy Peak Huahua. Awards for Best Jump Trick, Best Rail Trick, Best Girl, Best Courage, Worst Fall, and Newcomer Encouragement went to Wang Zhan, Gu Tou, Zhu Hong, Da Jing, Xiao Jia, and SAM respectively.
At 1:30 PM, the alpine park jam session officially began. All participants again freely selected obstacles and jumps to perform their tricks. Among the highlights was THENORTHFACE-sponsored rider Wang Zijian, who performed various frontflips and backflips on both the small and large jumps, with a particularly flawless Rodeo 540 on the big jump. Another THENORTHFACE-sponsored rider, Bao Zi, also showed great enthusiasm, with a stylish straight air and high, long backflip off the big jump, an impressive Cork 720 spin, and Romanian rider Sherban, who landed various 540 spins and delivered smooth tricks on obstacles. In the end, Wang Zijian, Bao Zi, and Sherban took the top three spots in the alpine jam session, winning a double-day ski and stay ticket from Huai Bei International Ski Resort, a Movement helmet sponsored by Snowy Peak Huahua, and a new Forcefield butt pad from Lengshan Ski Gear. The Best Girl award went to Xiao Nuan and Cherry Xiaoxiao, who each received an Ashbury goggle from GDRSPORT. Additionally, Zi Jian, Uncle Qiu, Hai Er, Wen Guang, and Peter won awards for Best Jump Trick, Best Rail Trick, Best Courage, Worst Fall, and Newcomer Encouragement.
In addition to the official jam sessions, a fun Ollie High Jump contest was held, testing riders’ basic skills regardless of whether they rode snowboard or ski—participants only needed to clear a set bar height. Nate jumped 1.2 meters to win the championship, with Li Jie and Feng Zi taking second and third place, receiving a sponsored jacket and backpack from THE NORTH FACE.
At this event, top riders from the scene gathered at Huai Bei to present a visual feast of “ski park show” combining skill, talent, courage, and challenge. Major sponsors also provided strong support. We hope more people will get involved to promote and popularize skiing, allowing even more to experience the joy of park skiing.
