As December arrives, Tianjin’s “skiing season” is arriving late due to the “high temperature” weather. Yesterday, reporters learned that several major ski resorts in Jizhou, known as the backyard garden of Beijing and Tianjin, are stepping up snowmaking efforts and are expected to officially open to the public this weekend.
Snowmaking conditions are now met
“In recent days, the highest daytime temperatures at the ski resort have reached 9°C, which has made snowmaking difficult. Fortunately, the ski slopes at Yulong Ski Resort are just shielded by mountains, so the lack of direct sunlight has alleviated the impact of the high temperatures. Currently, the temperature conditions suitable for snowmaking have been met. The intermediate slopes and tubing areas have already completed snowmaking, and only the beginner slopes are still under intense snowmaking efforts,” Yulong Ski Resort General Manager Wang Lianguo told reporters. “Weather has a huge impact on snowmaking. Windless, dry, and low-temperature weather is most suitable for making snow, but currently the temperatures are higher. A few days ago, the snow that was made would clump together if you squeezed it with your hand. The nighttime temperatures these past few days have already reached -3°C, which is the limit temperature for snowmaking machines to operate.”
Skiing Available in the City Before New Year’s Day
Yulong Ski Resort is expected to officially open to the public this Saturday, December 7. Additionally, Panshan Ski Resort is expected to open on December 8, and Jizhou International Ski Resort is expected to open on December 6. This signals that Tianjin will officially enter the skiing season this weekend. By New Year’s Day, various ice and snow worlds at the football field of New City Plaza east of Er Gong Park in Hedong District, the artificial lake of Tianjin Haichang Polar Ocean World, Victory Kingdom Theme Park, and Riverside Park will also open one after another. It is expected that around New Year’s Day, the city’s major ski resorts will welcome the first peak in visitor numbers.
Ski Resorts Create Theme Parks
It is understood that Yulong Ski Resort has renovated its intermediate slopes this year, widening them from over 30 meters to 50 meters, increasing the slope angle from the previous 9 degrees to 11 degrees, and extending the length from over 200 meters to 300 meters. In addition, this year Yulong Ski Resort will also create a children's snow play theme park, featuring snow castles, snowmen, Snow White, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and other animated images and scenes. This winter, Jizhou International Ski Resort will add new ice and snow entertainment activities for all to enjoy, including the Ice and Snow Challenge, Ice and Snow Fairy Tale Kingdom, snow sculptures, and ice lanterns. The Ice and Snow Challenge includes six obstacles: flying down the slopes, crossing the snowy plains, soaring over snow-capped mountains, navigating the polar maze, exploring the icy river, and bravely climbing the ice peaks. The Ice and Snow Fairy Tale Kingdom, composed of themes such as ice sculptures, snow sculptures, ice lanterns, Bald Strong’s snow house, Grey Wolf’s castle, Pleasant Goat’s goat village, Eskimo snow huts, and polar icy rivers, is a paradise for winter children.
