Just after the start of winter in 2016, the northeastern monsoon arrived. Starting Tuesday, temperatures began to fall. Northern Taiwan still saw daytime highs above 25 degrees Celsius, but evenings turned cold, with a temperature difference of around ten degrees — warm clothing remains essential. Central and southern Taiwan still experienced highs of 30 degrees, so nighttime warmth should also be monitored.

With the arrival of the northeastern monsoon, a frontal system has also moved in. Northern Taiwan, Hualien-Taitung, and Kinmen-Matsu have turned cloudy with rain. Daytime lows in northern Taiwan could drop to 17–19 degrees, and this situation will last until Friday. In addition, air pollution remains severe, with PM2.5 levels hitting hazardous "purple alert" levels in areas such as Hsinta, Mailiao, and Kinmen, remaining under red alert. Aside from warm clothing and rain gear, air pollution is another factor to be mindful of when heading out.
