Nantou has a new attraction. Trails, scenic bridges, and waterfall views have always been popular among tourists. The newly built plank walk at the much-anticipated Shuanglong Waterfall has been completed and is currently undergoing inspection. It is set to open in early 2017, allowing visitors to enjoy the waterfall and nearby scenic views while also boosting local industrial development.

The plank walk stretches 947 meters in total, with 3,300 steps and a height difference of about 100 meters between its highest and lowest points. In the future, a scenic suspension bridge will be installed under the waterfall, connecting the areas of Sun Moon Lake’s south shore, Dili, and Shuanglong, forming a unified route of attractions to draw more tourists.

The plank walk has now been completed. Once the future scenic suspension bridge is finished, it will create one of Taiwan’s most beautiful and high-quality landscapes, linking the Shuanglong Waterfall with attractions such as the glass suspension bridge, Shuiliandong (Water Curtain Cave), Wangxiang Tribe, and Dongpu Hot Springs. A two-day, one-night circular tour itinerary can be planned to boost tourism and other industries in Xinyi.

The local government office stated that the plank walk is tentatively named the “Shuanglong Tian Shi Plank Walk.” It uses hollow, expansive iron mesh constructed with natural methods and in an environmentally friendly way to avoid affecting vegetation growth. Although the plank walk is completed, inspections will only take place next week, and the public is currently advised not to visit.
