The Tainan Art Museum held its grand opening ceremony on December 27. The Tainan Museum of Fine Arts is Taiwan’s first local administrative legal entity art museum and also the first art museum to open in Taiwan in the 21st century.

The inaugural exhibition in Main Building 1, "Glory of the Capital," presents a multi-layered spatiotemporal narrative of Taiwan or Tainan from past to present. This exhibition uses the city as a method and explores the construction process and formal essence of urban identity through visual and material cultural materials related to four sub-themes: "Art History of the Capital," "Reinterpreting the Middle," "The Rise of Southern Wind," and "Urbanity. New Landscapes. Spatial Power." The curators include Pan Anyi, Chang Ching-yuan, Lee Sih-hsien, and Bai Shih-ming.

The second building, "Tribute to Taiwan," specially invites 156 artists born, working, or residing in Tainan since 1920 to contribute one representative artwork each to celebrate the museum’s birthday.

Tainan Museum of Fine Arts Main Building 1 is located at the intersection of Nanmen Road and You'ai Street. Its main structure was completed in 1931 (Showa 6), originally serving as the Tainan Police Station during the Japanese colonial period, and was renamed Tainan City Police Bureau after World War II. The architect at the time was Uheiji Masuzo, who also designed Tainan’s first department store — the renowned Lin Department Store.
