We often see many foreign attractions on social media that look incredibly beautiful and spectacular, so we add them to our travel lists. But when we land and see the real thing, it’s nothing like what we imagined. Here are six globally recognized disappointing attractions, where online photos are highly misleading.

1.United Kingdom Stonehenge
 
One of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the UK’s Stonehenge is said to be a temple ruin from prehistoric culture and holds great research value in astronomy and architecture. But travelers need to spend over two hours on a car ride and nearly £20 in admission fees just to see it—and you can only view it from a distance. The tallest stone pillars are only about three stories high, nowhere near as majestic as imagined.

2.Italy Venice
 
Sitting in a gondola rowed by a handsome Italian gondolier, gliding through the waterways and admiring this city that has stood the test of time on the Adriatic Sea—Venice is a dream vacation spot for many. But with nearly 60,000 visitors a day, the city is under great strain. Commercialized shops, ubiquitous pickpockets, and expensive transportation all lead to disappointment.

3.Denmark The Little Mermaid
 
The Little Mermaid, from Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known fairy tale, is Denmark’s most famous attraction. But the statue is quite small and lacks grandeur, with a cluttered background, heavy tourist crowds, and concerns over safety due to its location by the shore. It's simply impossible to have a romantic, peaceful moment appreciating the Little Mermaid.

4.Italy Leaning Tower of Pisa
 
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the world’s most well-known buildings and a familiar sight to many children. But it’s actually not very big and is far less impressive than in photos. The surrounding buildings and lawns are even more eye-catching, leading many to list it as a disappointing attraction.
