Typhoon Haitang (international name: HAITANG), a mild tropical storm designated as No. 10, followed closely after Nesat departed Taiwan. Around 16:40 on July 30, it made landfall near Fanggang, Pingtung, with its center overland northwest of Eluanbi, continuing to move northeast then north-northwest. Its storm circle has entered the southern and southeastern parts of Taiwan, posing threats to areas south of Nantou and Chiayi, as well as Hualien-Taitung.
Main Areas Affected by Typhoon Haitang
On land, Hualien, Taitung, Nantou, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung should remain on high alert and guard against strong winds and heavy rain.
Extremely Heavy Rain: Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County.
Heavy Rain: Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Taitung County.
As this typhoon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression, wind strength will likely diminish, but rainfall remains a serious concern. The situation affecting Taiwan on July 31 and whether work/school closures will be implemented require further forecasting and will be announced progressively by the Ministry of Personnel Administration.
