“Wan Shi Shan · Song Dynasty Martial Arts City,” located in the northwest corner of Kaifeng’s city wall loop area, covers an area of about 600 acres and is a large-scale multi-scenic tourism destination themed around the martial arts culture of the Song Dynasty.

During the May Day Golden Week, the scenic area presents 36 elaborately choreographed live-action martial arts performances (over 60 shows per day), featuring Water Margin-themed plays such as “Crossroads,” “Wu Song Drunkenly Beats Jiang Men Shen,” and “Wild Boar Forest,” which vividly recreate the unique charm of the many outlaws from the classic novel. Heroic-themed performances like “Seven Heroes and Five Gallants” and “Rescuing the Emperor at Ox Head Mountain” showcase the righteousness of Bao Zheng and Yue Fei, one a loyal Song Dynasty official and the other a famed general. Martial arts shows based on Jin Yong and Gu Long novels, such as “Peach Blossom Island” and “The Four Great Constables,” bring you the romanticism and intrigue of the jianghu (martial world). Meanwhile, modern martial arts-themed performances like “Jing Wu Men” and “Fist of Fury” highlight iconic figures such as Bruce Lee and Chen Zhen, taking you on a journey through time to immerse yourself in the world of martial arts.

The scenic area features attractions such as the (Song Dynasty Distillery), which showcases the wine culture of the Song Dynasty; the (Jiang Hu Street), integrating the street culture of the Song Dynasty; the (Gui Yun Village), displaying rich folk handicrafts of the Song era; the (Wan Shi Temple), recreating the splendor of an ancient imperial temple; and the (Ancient City Wall Air Defense Facility), the only site in China that reproduces the unique “city stacking” phenomenon of ancient city walls. Elements such as the “Heavenly Sword” and “Dragon Slaying Saber” on Martial Arts Road, the scroll of “Ode to Gallantry,” the “Heroes Illustration” at the Song Dynasty Martial Arts School, the “Sword Altar” at Crossroads, the “Gathering Hall of Heroes” at Ren Yi Xia Square, and the “Eight Major Martial Arts Schools” at the Martial Arts Arena all exude a strong martial arts cultural atmosphere.
Among them, the specially created “Jiang Hu Street” will also greet visitors during the May Day Golden Week, emphasizing immersive experiences and real interaction. Drawing on extensive research into Song Dynasty literature, the area authentically recreates the vibrant life and diverse professions of the Song Dynasty streets. It features numerous classic mannequin displays and street performance skits, complete with settings like escort agencies, gambling dens, and pawnshops, making you feel as if you've traveled back a thousand years to the Song Dynasty’s martial world. In the future, Jiang Hu Street will also develop large-scale mountain stronghold live-action shows using modern technologies like sound, light, and electricity to portray the drama and grandeur of the martial world.

Nine Dragons Waterfall — One of China’s Largest Artificial Stream Waterfall Complexes
During the 2015 Temple Fair, the grand landscape attraction — Nine Dragons Waterfall — was fully opened to the public. The scenic area adopts a new design concept, using Song Dynasty culture and cascading waterfalls as the main elements of the landscape language. A flying pavilion connects the two main thoroughfares representing the martial and leisure cultures of the scenic area, forming a unique landscape framework that blends Song and martial culture. It recreates the majestic scenery described in the golden age of the Song Dynasty, featuring undulating terrain, flowing streams, waterfalls, and valleys. Visitors are welcome to come during the May Day period to enjoy the magnificent spring views.
