The Beijing Greenway Volunteer Service Project Officially Launched
The Beijing Greenway Volunteer Service Project4th18On the day, the project was officially launched at Haidian Park. As a2014-year municipal social construction special fund-supported project in Beijing, it is organized by the Beijing Municipal Social Construction Work Office, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, and the Beijing Sports Federation, and hosted by the Beijing Sports & Leisure Industry Association and Green Field Outdoor. Gong Zongyuan, Deputy District Chief of Haidian District People’s Government, Lu Hongze, Deputy Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Lian Guozhao, Deputy Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, Tang Zhihua, Head of the General Office of the Beijing Municipal Social Work Committee, and Tian Changbo, Chairman of the Beijing Sports & Leisure Industry Association, delivered speeches respectively. Participants included responsible persons from relevant departments of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, as well as40greenway volunteers from capital universities and outdoor clubs, along with numerous fitness enthusiasts who attended the launch ceremony.
At the ceremony site, leaders from relevant units presented the “Beijing Greenway Volunteer Service Team” flag to volunteer representatives, visited the “Green House” (greenway volunteer service station) and the physical fitness testing station set up on-site by the Beijing Municipal Institute of Sports Science. They then joined citizens in walking along the health trail for an on-foot fitness experience. The organizers also distributed the “Beijing Greenway Service Guide” brochure to the public, provided volunteer consultation services, and offered free physical fitness tests.
It is reported that this project is a key initiative to support the city’s vigorous development of healthy greenways and represents a positive attempt to promote government-led, socially-participatory, and citizen-benefiting greenways. Through the greenway volunteer service platform, it is hoped that publicity for greenways will be enhanced, allowing the general public to learn about and experience greenways, thereby forming a social atmosphere of joint participation in the construction, management, and operation of greenways.
In the following two months, greenway volunteer service activities will be carried out on the opened greenways in Beijing and parts of park trails. “Green Houses” (greenway volunteer service stations) will be set up at the service sites, where volunteers will distribute the “Beijing Greenway and Trail Fitness Guide” brochure to the public free of charge, introduce the planning of Beijing’s greenway construction and the basic information of the currently open greenways, and provide citizens with greenway venue consultations, scientific fitness guidance, and promotion. This aims to enhance public awareness of participating in greenway sports activities, making greenway sports an important component of the nationwide fitness campaign. Meanwhile, Green Field Outdoor Network will launch a “Beijing Greenway” special section for citizens to learn about the construction of Beijing’s greenways and participate in interactive greenway fitness activities.
It is understood that a greenway is a linear green space suitable for walking or cycling, linking various high-quality resources such as green areas, tourism, culture, and agricultural sightseeing, providing people with excellent recreational and fitness spaces, and giving the general public fair access to national public resources. The Beijing Municipal Government deliberated and passed the “Overall Plan for the Construction of Beijing Municipal-Level Greenways” on2013year,7month,23date, outlining the “Three Rings, Three Wings, Multiple Corridors” overall layout of the municipal greenways, establishing a three-tier greenway structure consisting of municipal, district/county, and community-level greenways, specifying the content, investment standards, and funding sources for greenway construction in the city, identifying the implementing and management entities of the project, and laying a solid foundation for the healthy development of Beijing’s greenway construction.(2013-2017year)》, which planned the city-level greenway overall layout of "three rings, three wings, and multiple corridors" for our city, established a three-tier greenway framework composed of city-level, district/county-level, and community-level greenways, stipulated the content, investment standards, and funding sources for the city's greenway construction, identified the implementing and management entities of the projects, and laid a solid foundation for the healthy development of Beijing's greenway construction.
The construction of healthy greenways in our city was fully launched in2013, and in2014, the municipal government listed the construction of200kilometers of municipal greenways as a practical project for the people. Following the work principle of “urban areas first, then suburbs; central urban areas first, then new towns; easier projects first, then harder ones; advancing in a coordinated manner,” a number of greenways have been successively completed and opened to date: the Shisan Mountain & Five Gardens Greenway in Haidian District, the Ring Second Ring City Greenway, the Yuanbo Greenway in Fengtai District, the Wenyu River Waterfront Greenway, the Guishui Greenway in Yanqing, the Yanqi Lake Greenway in Huairou, and the Riverside Forest Park Greenway in Shunyi, with a total length exceeding300kilometers.2015The construction of greenways remains one of the municipal government’s practical projects for the people in200, with plans to build
