However, recently the Lotte Group announced that due to lease factors, Lotte Mart will cease operations by the end of the year. Since both Lotte Department Store in Yeongdeungpo and Lotte Mart in Seoul Station are located on state-owned land, the Korean government has decided not to renew their leases this year and will reclaim the land for state ownership as early as the end of the year. This means that two major shopping landmarks in Seoul will close at the end of the year.
