The Green River Waterfront launches its exclusive LOGO!The Taichung City Government is promoting the “Revitalized Green River Waterfront Corridor Project.” In addition to ongoing flood prevention, water quality improvement, and landscape development, it has also made a nationwide first by applying for a “registered trademark” for the waterfront, designing an exclusive brand for the Green River, and applying it to surrounding infrastructure and products to convey the new value of the Green River. The first phase of the project will feature the LOGO on manhole covers in underpasses, with a nostalgic brand visual that leaves a deep impression on visitors.

During the Japanese colonial period, the Green River riverside was picturesque, running through the bustling streets of central Taichung, often compared to Kyoto’s Kamo River in Japan, earning it the nickname “Little Kyoto.” To revive its former glory, the city government is advancing the Green River Waterfront Corridor project. Through initiatives such as uncovering and renovating the river, box culvert flood prevention, diverting domestic sewage, and landscape enhancement, it aims to create a waterfront that offers tourism appeal, economic benefits, and historical storytelling—a project set to be completed smoothly by next spring.

To further enhance the unique charm of the Green River, the Water Resources Bureau specially designed an exclusive waterfront brand LOGO, drawing inspiration from the culture of the old city center and evoking the nostalgic scenes of the Japanese colonial era. Visually, the design features a heron gazing at earthen embankments on both sides, with figures strolling beneath the trees, emphasizing the balance between urban development and natural ecology, and showcasing regional cultural creativity.

As Taiwan’s first riverfront to be registered as a trademark, the Green River will become a pioneer in modern waterfront branding, blending tradition with modernity to share local identity and imagination with residents and visitors alike—leaving everyone who visits with lasting memories of the Green River.

The first phase of the project will apply the LOGO to manhole covers in pedestrian underpasses along nearby pathways. Moving forward, information sessions will be held to guide surrounding businesses in using the Green River brand to co-create local revitalization, combined with in-depth guided tours to promote the area’s cuisine, industries, and historical culture, invigorating local development.
