Nantou’s Xinyi Township is a renowned destination for plum blossom viewing. Thanks to the recent cold snap coupled with consecutive rainy days that brought high humidity, the plum blossoms this year are in the best condition seen in recent years. Popular viewing spots include Fenguitou, Wusong, Niuchongkeng, among which the Waipingding plum area boasts the best blooms, becoming an emerging hidden gem for plum blossom viewing. Many visitors even come here specifically to admire the blossoms at night.

The spectacular plum blossoms at Waipingding
Waipingding’s plum area spans several hectares of orchards where plum trees have been cultivated for over 40 years. The slopes are blanketed in a snow-white floral carpet, and as you stroll through, you can enjoy the delicate, elegant fragrance of the blossoms. Cai Family’s Hidden Gem Meiyuan Garden is a must-visit spot in Waipingding. The old-time wooden cabins paired with falling plum petals create a highly nostalgic and classic atmosphere.
To reach Waipingding, take Provincial Highway 21 toward Tonglin Bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn right and go straight until you reach a curve, then turn left and follow the road uphill via the farm lane to get there. Visitors can park at the mid-mountain parking lot and then walk to spots such as Tongfu Village and Cai Family’s Meiyuan Garden to enjoy the flowers.
