Visiting just the Big Lake for strawberry picking isn't enough – A one-day tour of Miaoli’s top five attractions

Miaoli’s Big Lake is known as Taiwan’s Strawberry Kingdom. From November to April each year, it’s peak strawberry season, with strawberry farms and sightseeing orchards everywhere. Visitors can pick their own strawberries and take fresh ones home. Aside from strawberry picking in Big Lake, Miaoli offers other attractions worth visiting, perfect for a one-day trip itinerary.

1. Big Lake Winery & Strawberry Story Museum
At Big Lake Winery, you can observe the wine brewing and production process. Though the exterior has a classic traditional look, the interior features highly modern mechanization, with the warehouse filled with oak barrels arranged by different vintages and types.

The Strawberry Culture Museum is also a must-visit attraction. It has five floors: the first floor sells strawberry merchandise, souvenirs, and local agricultural products; the second and third floors introduce strawberry ecology, the history of strawberry culture in Big Lake, and ways to enjoy strawberries; the fourth and fifth floors house a restaurant and a rooftop garden where visitors can dine, enjoy tea and coffee, and take in the scenic views of Big Lake.

2. Shengxing Station
With a history of over 100 years, Shengxing Train Station is the most rugged and scenically unique section of the Western Trunk Line. The entire station building is made of wood, featuring Japanese-style tiger-tooth wooden architecture believed to ward off evil and bring blessings. Many of its facilities are remnants from the Japanese colonial period. It has now become a popular spot for visitors to take photos and check in.
