A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Hualien at 23:50 on February 6, causing extensive damage. Upholding its corporate social responsibility and humanitarian care, Taiwan High Speed Rail has launched the “Hualien Earthquake Rescue Ride Initiative” starting today.

All disaster relief and medical teams from various counties and cities planning to assist in Hualien may apply for free rides on THSR trains to the Greater Taipei Area, facilitating rapid transfer to the disaster zone to join rescue efforts, save affected residents, and aid in reconstruction.
Taiwan High Speed Rail stated that although it is a mass transit service on the western corridor, it unhesitatingly assists rescue teams in traveling to the eastern disaster areas via high-speed rail, aiming to embody the spirit of “speedy love delivery.” The company stands united with the government to devote full efforts to the rescue work.

Taiwan High Speed Rail “Hualien Earthquake Rescue Ride Initiative” Service Details:
1. Application Period: Applications open from Wednesday, February 7, 2018 (subject to extension based on rescue progress, with the cutoff date to be announced separately).
2. Eligibility: Rescue teams heading to Hualien for disaster relief (one of the departure or arrival stations must be Nangang Station, Taipei Station, or Banqiao Station).
3. Application Method:
(1) Rescue teams must apply at least one hour before departure to facilitate seat arrangements.
(2) For applications, please call the THSR customer service hotline at 4066-3000 (add 02 for mobile), 4266-3000 for Miaoli area, 4666-3000 for Taitung and Kinmen areas, 02-4066-3000 for Matsu area. Customer service is available daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
(3) THSR will confirm the train and seat with the applicant.
(4) The applying representative must present personal identification and group credentials to collect tickets for boarding.
(5) To ensure travel safety, rescue teams carrying relief items must comply with the THSR “Passenger Transport Contract” regulations.
* Each piece of carry-on baggage must not exceed 150 cm in length, or a combined length, width, and height of 220 cm, with a total weight not exceeding 40 kg.
(6) This ride assistance is provided free of charge as a humanitarian effort by THSR. No compensation will be given for delays, route changes, or service interruptions.
(7) Due to limited resources, THSR reserves the right to approve or deny any application. Unauthorized use of this assistance will require full fare payment according to regulations.
