The embankments along the Nankan Stream in southern Taoyuan near Jinguo Road were outdated. Cyclists attempting to cross Jinguo No. 2 Bridge and Dahuaixi Bridge had to contend with heavy vehicle traffic, and there were also gaps in the existing waterfront cycling paths. In response, the municipal government initiated improvements upstream on the Nankan Stream, conducted water purification, and constructed an S-shaped bicycle and pedestrian bridge that reflects the natural curves of the river. This not only connects existing paths but also offers cyclists the unique experience of riding high above the water, creating a new landmark along Taoyuan’s waterfront.

The Nankan Stream features a waterfront greenbelt, and its cycling path spans 21 kilometers in total. However, there was a gap between Dahuaixi Bridge and Jinguo No. 2 Bridge, where cyclists had to dismount and wheel their bikes across the road amid heavy traffic—causing significant inconvenience. To address this, the city government carried out water purification works in the Gueishan section of the upper Nankan Stream and renovated 310 meters of aging embankments from upstream of Jinguo No. 2 Bridge to downstream of Dahuaixi Bridge. They also enhanced the water environment, creating the new “Impression Bridge” landmark along the Nankan Stream.

The flat S-shaped Impression Bridge reflects the elegant bends of the river. In the future, cyclists will no longer need to merge back into vehicle lanes, reducing safety risks. The bridge includes upstream and downstream ramps, totaling 655 meters in length and 4 meters in width, and was completed in 2019 (Year 108 in Taiwan’s calendar).

After completion, the city plans to evaluate potential locations for YouBike stations and integrate the route with the existing Taoyuan–Luzhu Waterfront Cycling Path. The new Impression Bridge over the Nankan Stream will further complete the cycling network. Additionally, efforts will enhance the sewerage connection rate among residents to reduce pollution in receiving waters, thereby improving living environments and expanding recreational spaces for water-based leisure activities.
