Although meteorologist Cheng Ming-tien previously warned that due to negative Arctic oscillation, an extremely cold wave (referred to as a "king wave" cold front) might hit during the holiday period, this claim has since been clarified. It was emphasized that Taiwan is not in the path of this cold air mass, so there’s no need to worry about low temperatures during the Spring Festival.
The days leading up to the New Year are also an important time for families to clean their homes and prepare New Year goods. Here’s the upcoming weather overview:
On Friday, February 1, affected by the northeastern monsoon, the northern and northeastern regions will become cooler. There will be localized brief showers in the northern and eastern parts of Taiwan, while other areas will experience mostly cloudy to sunny weather. Temperatures will drop by about 5°C, hovering around 15°C. In central and southern Taiwan, highs could reach around 22°C. Be mindful of the large day-night temperature differences.
On Saturday and Sunday (February 2 and 3), the northeastern monsoon will weaken slightly, and temperatures will rise. Day-night temperature differences will be significant in western Taiwan, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 24°C. In the south, highs could even reach 27°C or 28°C. Most areas will be mostly cloudy to sunny, with only isolated brief showers in Keelung, eastern Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and southeastern regions.
