Whether you're a commuter or a short-term overseas visitor staying in the Greater Taipei area, the frequency of using public transportation is very high. Not only is the MRT busy every day, but buses and YouBikes are also commonly used as modes of transport. Now, you no longer have to worry about daily commuting expenses — the Greater Taipei region has introduced a transportation pass that can even help daily office commuters or short-term visitors save up to NT$1,000 in total！

The transportation pass, launched on April 16, is priced at NT$1,280. It allows unlimited rides on the MRT and buses in the Greater Taipei area for 30 days, and even offers a free first 30 minutes for YouBike rides for those who purchase the pass. For example, taking the MRT from Taipei Zoo Station to Tamsui Station with an EasyCard at a 20% discount would cost NT$104 round trip. With 22 working days, that’s NT$2,288. By switching to the transportation pass, you can save approximately NT$1,000！ Since the announcement, it has not only been a great benefit for commuters but also a smart way for short-term visitors to reduce their travel costs in the Greater Taipei area.

The pass went on sale on March 13. Existing EasyCard regular cards, EasyCard co-branded cards, or EasyCard Debit cards (with a card validity period of more than 60 days) can be used to purchase the pass at ticket counters in Taipei MRT stations or via the automatic ticket vending and top-up machines. It will be available for use starting April 16, and users can activate the pass at MRT gates or bus validators after loading it onto their EasyCards.

With the transportation pass, you no longer have to worry about every penny spent on fares. The city government also expressed hope that this initiative will help ease traffic congestion and encourage more people to use public transportation.
