Reach Japan’s highest peak—the Mt. Fuji climbing season has begun, with some toilets now charging usage fees

The annual Mt. Fuji climbing season has arrived. The Yoshida Trail on the Yamanashi Prefecture side opened first on the 1st, while the three trails on the Shizuoka Prefecture side are expected to open from July 10 and remain accessible until September 10.

Mt. Fuji's climbing trails are mainly divided into the Yoshida Trail (5th Station) on the Yamanashi Prefecture side, and the Subashiri, Gotemba, and Fujinomiya Trails (5th Station) on the Shizuoka Prefecture side, totaling four routes.

According to the official Mt. Fuji climbing website, the Yoshida Trail (5th Station) is open from now until September 10, while the descent trail remains open until the morning of September 11. When nature calls, public restrooms are available along the climbing trails for hikers. However, using the public toilets at the 6th Station of the Yoshida Trail and the 7th Station of the descent trail will incur a fee of 200 yen per person.

The three trails on the Shizuoka Prefecture side are uniformly open from July 10 to September 10. Among them, using the public toilets at the 5th Station of the Subashiri Trail and the 5th Station of the Fujinomiya Trail requires a fee of 200 yen and 100 yen, respectively.
