In the high-rise-filled metropolis of Tokyo, which blends tradition with urban elements, a developer plans to construct the world’s tallest vertical forest building, “W350,” by 2041.

Japanese developer Sumitomo Forestry plans to build a 350-meter-tall, 70-story wooden skyscraper in central Tokyo on the occasion of the company’s 350th anniversary in 2041, aiming to create the world’s tallest wooden skyscraper. This project, called “W350,” will integrate shops, a hotel, residences, and offices across 8,000 rooms, covering an area of 455,000 square meters, making it one of the world’s most daring architectural designs.

This wooden skyscraper will set a new benchmark for future architecture, replacing traditional materials such as steel and concrete. It will use only 10% steel, with the remaining 90% made of wood. Key structural elements such as internal columns and beams will be made from a hybrid of steel and wood to effectively withstand earthquakes, while the interior spaces will be built entirely from timber.
