A renowned hotel booking platform has announced the latest “Loved by Guests Award” for 2018, unveiling the list of hotels most favored by global travelers, with 30 hotels in Taiwan receiving gold awards.

This year’s list no longer uses hotel star ratings as the sole reference criterion. The real accommodation experience is reflected in guest reviews and scores. Based on the scores, boutique hotels with distinctive features and business hotels with excellent facilities remain popular among travelers; resort accommodations offering comfortable stays and beautiful natural scenery receive even higher ratings and feedback.
Awarded 9.6 points: Yilan Lakeside Green Waterfront Retreat.
The top five “most popular” countries globally maintained their brilliance from last year. The United States remains the biggest global winner, with a total of 1,498 properties awarded gold. Italy surpassed the UK to take second place; other high-performing countries include Canada and Spain.

Among the 30 Taiwanese award-winning hotels, Taipei secured 10 spots, followed by Nantou with 5, and Hualien with 3. The five award-winning hotels that received the highest score of 9.6 are not five-star hotels but include homestays and stylish lodgings located in popular tourist destinations such as Hualien, Yilan, Taitung, and Nantou.
