Kenrokuen Garden is one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, known for its pond reflections and lush greenery surrounding dreamlike garden landscapes, making it one of the must-see sightseeing spots in Kanazawa. Taiwan also has Japanese-style garden scenery, where serene lake reflections are accented by trees such as bald cypress, earning it the nickname “Taiwan’s Kenrokuen” among many netizens.

1. Taichung – Juhong Construction construction site
Located in Beitun District, Taichung, there is a 2,500-ping Japanese-style garden that serves as the future construction site for a new building by Juhong Construction. To break away from the usual desolate look of pre-construction sites, the area has been specially transformed into a hidden garden oasis.

The garden features bald cypress trees, small bridges over flowing water, container houses, stone-paved pathways, as well as bamboo-woven installation art, all contributing to a strong Japanese garden atmosphere. It is currently open for free visits and photography until tentatively October.

2. Changhua – Chengmei Cultural Park
Located in Changhua, Chengmei Cultural Park may feature a Tang-style garden design, but it shares a similar aesthetic charm with Japanese gardens. The site was originally the ancestral home of the Wei brothers from the Ting Hsin International Group. After more than 20 years of transition, it was meticulously restored by a team of Taiwanese master artisans and officially opened at the end of 2012 as a “Century-Old Common Life Museum,” breathing new life into the century-old residence.

The park combines the classical beauty of traditional architecture with the exquisitely crafted scenery of a Japanese-style garden. It not only preserves the essence of traditional Min and Hakka architectural craftsmanship and cultural art, but also harmonizes with the beauty of nature to create a unique cultural landscape.
