A well-established local cake shop that has been around for over 20 years, Hakamoku-ya announced the complete closure of all its stores across Taiwan starting May 31 due to continued losses, leaving many loyal customers feeling saddened.
A well-established local cake shop that has been around for over 20 years, Hakamoku-ya announced the complete closure of all its stores across Taiwan starting May 31 due to continued losses, leaving many loyal customers feeling saddened.

Established in 1997, Hakamoku-ya was once renowned for its exquisite cakes, popular souvenirs, handmade chocolates, and French macarons. In addition to its retail stores, it also set up a brand exploration center in Yangmei, Taoyuan. The brand has won three of Taiwan’s top honors: the National Rock Award, the Taiwan Corporate Excellence Award, and the National Quality Award.

Reports indicate that two main factors led to Hakamoku-ya's decision to close: rising costs and intense market competition. In recent years, increases in labor, materials, and overall expenses have become unsustainable, while the domestic market is saturated with too many bakeries and fierce competition—these were the two main reasons for the closure.
Once hailed as Taiwan’s top domestic cake brand, Hakamoku-ya will soon become history.
As Hakamoku-ya prepares to close its doors, to accommodate long-time customers, it will continue selling its products until the end of the month and also offer retail sales. Fans of Hakamoku-ya are reminded to seize the last chance to place orders or make purchases within the coming week.
