Showcasing Creative Industries' Soft and Hard Power – Free Admission to the 2018 Taiwan Design Exhibition

The 2018 Taiwan Design Exhibition is themed “Soft:Hard – The Future Beyond Imagination,” focusing on “the future” and showcasing the exhibition through multiple dimensions including digital technology, smart materials, artisan craftsmanship, and urban design.

Taichung, the host city of the 2018 Taiwan Design Exhibition, drew inspiration for the exhibition theme from the city’s unique soft and hard power. It also incorporates Taichung’s designation as Taiwan’s official Smart Machinery Capital, using design to present the cold, hard machinery in a more humanistic and soft light.

The exhibition invited 10 curators from both domestic and international backgrounds, with Mr. Lu Wei, Director of Nordic Design Consultants, serving as the chief curator. A total of 8 major pavilions and 2 special exhibitions were planned, bringing together approximately 700 exhibits from 14 countries for a grand and spectacular showcase.

The 8 major pavilions include the “Theme Pavilion,” which embodies the exhibition’s theme “Soft:Hard – The Future Beyond Imagination”; the “Taichung SPIRIT Pavilion,” designed for everyday life; the “Exploration Pavilion,” which delves into the process of industrial technologization in Taiwan; the “String Art Pavilion,” connecting design with craftsmanship and daily life; the “International Pavilion,” showcasing urban design concepts from around the world; the “Lohas Pavilion,” representing Smile MIT and creative living; the “Taichung LIFE Pavilion,” focusing on transitions in life; and the “Taichung FUSION Pavilion,” integrating new ventures with cultural creativity.

Additionally, there is the “Wood & Lacquer Art Special Exhibition Area,” promoting contemporary Taiwanese wood and lacquer craftsmanship, and the “Old-School Galaxy Special Exhibition,” centered around an aging society.
