In recent years, the trend of independent travel abroad has been popular, and fewer people are traveling within Taiwan. However, there are actually many hidden gems, authentic local snacks, and trendy stays across the island that are well worth exploring. This year, the Tourism Bureau has unveiled Taiwan’s “30 Classic Towns,” waiting for locals and travelers to discover the beauty of Taiwan.

In the north, Keelung’s Zhongzheng District boasts a colorful fishing port and unique coastal geological landscapes, even being hailed by foreign media as one of the world’s 21 most beautiful sunrise spots. Beitou and Dadaocheng preserve the hot spring culture dating back to the Japanese colonial period, along with many historic buildings worth visiting. New Taipei’s Pinglin and Ruifang, nestled against the mountains, feature oolong tea plantations and old streets—perfect for leisurely walks or bike rides.
Railway culture, historical landmarks, and humanistic charm are all treasures of Taiwan.
Taoyuan’s Daxi District offers charming old towns, historic streets, and unique visitor factories. Hsinchu’s Old City is the earliest developed urban area in northern Taiwan. Hsinchu’s Guanxi is famous for its persimmon cakes, thanks to the strong winds known as “Cierhong.” The Mawudu Forest exploration and Dong’an Ancient Bridge are also not to be missed. Miaoli is rich in Hakka culture, while Taichung’s Xinshe is a year-round destination combining flower seas, ecology, and agricultural products.
Landscape facilities and newly built structures integrated with nature are both magnificent and beautiful.
In Changhua, Lukang is not only known for its old street and Tianhou Temple, but its street layout also reflects the development of Taiwanese towns. Nantou’s Jiji District offers a railway experience and cycling tours around town, providing an intimate cultural encounter. Yunlin’s Beigang preserves traditional religious crafts and historical heritage, offering deeper insights into this land. Chiayi’s Alishan Forest Railway and Meishan’s Cloud Ladder are prime examples of integrating natural landscapes.
