The Greenland Comfort Extreme Challenge initiated by Ariston not only recruited the world’s three bravest and most resilient Ariston technical experts to form the ultimate team to take on the challenge, but also collaborated with LEAPfactory to build a high-tech comfort zone. LEAPfactory is an innovative Italian design company founded by two nature-loving, talented architects: alpine skier Luca Gentilcore and passionate mountaineer Stefano Testa.
LEAPfactory’s first successful project was the Bivouac Gervasutti, a shelter specifically designed for mountain and hiking enthusiasts. Their design philosophy is fully embodied in this structure, seamlessly integrating human architecture with the natural environment and infusing modern high technology into natural beauty. During construction, they completely abandoned years of learned techniques and instead relearned an entirely new building method — maintaining sustainable principles even in extreme environments while harmonizing with the surrounding nature. They also adopted the slogan “build houses with care,” striving to minimize environmental impact, aiming for reversible and quick assembly, while ensuring comfort, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
LEAPfactory’s construction philosophy aligns perfectly with Ariston’s longstanding brand ethos. The core equipment of the Greenland Comfort Zone — the ALTEAS ONE condensing wall-mounted boiler, which combines exceptional performance, ultra-high efficiency, and unique design — is the best proof of this. “Good design strikes a balance between beauty and simplicity. Products that are easy to assemble, energy-efficient, and sustainable can be called simple. The Ariston ALTEAS ONE is such a product that embodies both beauty and simplicity. It is the first wall-mounted boiler with an inner lining made of the most recyclable material: glass,” explained Ariston designer Umberto Palermo.

The exterior is also crucial for a sustainable building. From an aesthetic perspective, the Ariston Comfort Zone resembles a UFO — not embedded in the ground yet stable and sturdy, and easy to dismantle without impacting the surrounding environment. The Comfort Zone also takes inspiration from the Ariston brand logo in its design. In this modular house, visible columns and beams add rhythm to the interior space while incorporating highly functional minimalist design. Every detail integrates seamlessly with the overall structure, maintaining absolute consistency in quality and aesthetics.
To withstand strong winds and low temperatures in extreme environments, the entire structure of the Ariston Comfort Zone had to be reinforced with special support materials to endure high-intensity impacts. All steel components were made from a special alloy to prevent brittleness when thermal energy drops. Located on a barren plain, all materials required for construction had to be prepared before the assembly stage. “It’s all or nothing — there’s no hardware store in Greenland,” architect Gentilcore remarked. To ensure everything went smoothly, the house was pre-assembled in Italy to identify any necessary last-minute adjustments or error corrections. The house was pre-installed within a week, and all electrical, hydraulic, and thermal systems were tested. It was then dismantled and packed into shipping containers for transport to the destination.
Through the joint efforts and dedication of all parties involved, the sustainable Ariston Comfort Zone successfully provides comfort and shelter in extreme conditions. It includes a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and two research rooms, accommodating up to six people, making it the ideal comfort home for researchers.
