On December 26, reporters learned from the Qingdao Municipal Sports Bureau that the 2012 Qingdao National Fitness 10,000-Person Healthy Run will take place at 9:00 a.m. on January 1, 2012, in front of the municipal government building. The 2012 Qingdao New Year Cross-Country Race will also be held simultaneously. Citizens who wish to participate can register online at the Qingdao Sports Information Network.
“The original intention of our event is to encourage citizens to embrace the new year and a new life in a healthy way,” said Yu Liangren, head of the Mass Sports Division of the Qingdao Municipal Sports Bureau. It is understood that the theme of this National Fitness 10,000-Person Healthy Run is “Civilized Qingdao, Healthy City.” The event will organize 100 contingents, each consisting of 100 people, totaling 10,000 participants. Starting from the municipal government, the route will pass through Hong Kong Middle Road, Nanjing Road, and Macao Road, ending at the Olympic Sailing Center, covering a total distance of approximately 2.3 kilometers. “We welcome citizens to sign up. In addition, the 2012 Qingdao New Year Cross-Country Race will be held at the same time as the 10,000-Person Healthy Run. It is understood that the cross-country race is divided by age and gender into male (female) senior groups, male (female) adult groups, male (female) youth groups, and male (female) middle school groups. The eligibility criteria and race routes for each group can be found on the website. Athletes participating in the race must undergo a medical examination by a healthcare provider, providing proof of good health and suitability for the activity, before they can register. Participants will receive one timing chip each upon registration, which must not be shared. The deposit will be refunded at the finish line after the race upon return of the chip; no refund will be given for damaged chips.
