The finale event of the centennial commemoration of the Xinhai Revolution, "Ride Taiwan Forward," is about to officially kick off. On the 27th, the Council for Cultural Affairs held a pre-event press conference, announcing that 110,000 people will join the cycling relay around Taiwan. Additionally, companies have specially collected 1,000 second-hand bicycles to donate to community groups and residents in Hualien and Taitung, enabling people in remote areas to also experience the joy of cycling.
Council for Cultural Affairs Minister Tseng Yung-chang, Council of Physical Education Minister Tai Hsia-ling, Chief Convener of the Executive Team Liu Jin-biao, and event ambassador Da Mouth, among others, jointly raised a golden hammer to break an ice sculpture symbolizing a "world record," retrieving a pledge certificate for challenging the world record. They vowed to challenge a new global "cycling" milestone together with all Taiwanese people on the final day of the Xinhai Revolution centennial.
After the registration deadline on the 20th, over 110,000 enthusiastic participants from across Taiwan signed up. In particular, more than 7,000 cyclists are expected to take to the streets of Taipei at the starting point at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Tseng Yung-chang stated that Taiwan has long been known as the "Kingdom of Bicycles," and this event holds special significance, especially as environmental awareness grows and the LOHAS lifestyle becomes popular. Through this unprecedented global initiative, they aim to promote Taiwan to the world and move Taiwan forward.
Chief Convener of the Executive Team Liu Jin-biao pointed out that "Ride Taiwan Forward" combines the support of government agencies, cutting-edge IT technology from enterprises, and the mission and enthusiasm of civil society groups. By integrating technology with traditional industries, it declares Taiwan’s soft power to the world.
In addition, Spokesperson of the Executive Team Liu Li-zhu reminded participants to start cycling promptly at 10 a.m. on the event day. The 1,000-kilometer route across Taiwan will connect various local towns and villages. "On the final day of the centennial, we ask every participant to ride a bicycle, remember to bring your mobile phone, check in, and send a message—so you can become one of the shining stars of Taiwan."
This time, companies specially collected 1,000 second-hand bicycles to donate to community groups and residents in Hualien and Taitung. The bicycles were received on behalf of the recipients by Mr. Asaf (Lu Zhen-yu) from the Taitung Community Development Association, enabling children in remote areas without bicycles to also join the passionate ride on December 31. It is hoped that this rare opportunity will allow more children to experience the joy of cycling.
