In early December, Xihai Metropolis Daily and Qinghai Lake Scenic Area Protection and Utilization Administration jointly launched the “2012 China Happy and Healthy Tourism – Qinghai Lake 100-Person Hike to Welcome the New Year” event, which received an enthusiastic response from environmentalists and hiking enthusiasts. Many people called in, including hikers from provinces and cities such as Gansu, who wanted to secure a precious spot to welcome their 2012 by the most beautiful lake in China.
As a flagship scenic spot of Beautiful Qinghai, Qinghai Lake is not only a sacred lake in the hearts of the locals but also regarded as the purest and most dreamlike highland sea in the eyes of the world. Protecting the purity of Qinghai Lake and preserving the green ecology of Beautiful Qinghai is the ultimate goal of this event.
Guo Laixi, a renowned Chinese ecotourism expert, said when discussing ecotourism in Beautiful Qinghai that Qinghai holds an extremely important ecological position both domestically and internationally. To develop ecotourism in Beautiful Qinghai, we must not only promote the province’s beauty—its crystal-clear waters, crimson mountains, grasslands, forests, crisscrossing rivers, and dense lakes—but every person in Qinghai should also become a practitioner in protecting the ecology of Beautiful Qinghai, demonstrating through concrete actions the efforts we make in going green, being environmentally friendly, and preserving our ecosystem.
Officials from Qinghai Lake Scenic Area Protection and Utilization Administration introduced that the 2012 100-Person Hike to Welcome the New Year event has received an enthusiastic response from all sectors of society. As the designers of the event, environmental protection and ecology will remain its core themes. To advocate low-carbon living, Qinghai Lake Scenic Area has chosen hiking as the activity format, and to promote environmental protection and green living, the event will include a garbage collection segment. Additionally, on the day of the event, hundreds of participants will jointly issue an environmental protection initiative, calling for the preservation of Qinghai Lake, known as “the most beautiful lake in China” and “a national tourism emblem.”
The initiative includes the following points:
First, starting now and beginning with every small thing around us, actively participate in the “Protect Qinghai Lake, We Are Taking Action” campaign.
Second, conserve every drop of water, use phosphate-free detergents, reduce the use of disposable tableware and plastic bags, sort household waste, and eliminate “white pollution.”
Third, care for wildlife and protect our shared home.
Fourth, choose low-carbon travel and convey ecological and environmental protection concepts through hiking.
Fifth, advocate for scientific herding practices among lake-area pastoralists and avoid overgrazing to alleviate grassland pressure.
Sixth, reduce human factors that impact and damage the natural ecological environment around the lake.
Seventh, pay attention to Qinghai Lake, consciously promote “Beautiful Qinghai,” and be someone who loves Qinghai Lake.
