Travel enthusiasts often come up with fresh and exciting ideas from time to time. Tired of conventional travel routes and the neither-too-hot-nor-too-cold weather, they seek something new. For the locals in southern China, known as "Old Cantonese," Guangzhou’s winter brings nothing particularly special—still lush and green. As a result, heading out to admire snow and ice becomes a delightful thing. Would the sight of ice flows and glacier collapses in a frigid world of minus ten-something degrees leave you awestruck?
Hokkaido: A Leisurely Walk on the Ice Field, Experience Thrills and Excitement

Recommended Activities: The glaciers in the national park stretch 4 kilometers long and are about 150 feet high. The most famous is the Perito Moreno Glacier, covering 257 square kilometers and ranking as one of the three largest glaciers in the world. It is also one of the few glaciers that is still growing. The glacier advances around 30 centimeters each day, forming a towering wall of snow-white ice that glows blue against the emerald-green lake—a truly spectacular sight. Watching the glacier move is both a visual and auditory experience. From the specially built viewing platforms, visitors can see how the glacier “cascades” down from the snowy mountaintops. The glacier’s face is sheer and smooth, with countless crevices at the top that refract sunlight, producing a spectrum of colors. From the glacier, low rumbles can often be heard—these are the sounds of ice breaking apart, followed by massive chunks of ice crashing into the water. You can also take the MORENO-FIESTA cruise boat out onto Argentine Lake, stopping just 300 feet directly across from the glacier. The experience feels almost dreamlike.
Tips
Transportation: From Guangzhou, fly to Buenos Aires with a layover in Doha, a journey of approximately 26 hours. From Buenos Aires, you can take a flight to the town of El Calafate. The town’s bus station offers two daily buses to the national park, taking you directly to the area near the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Accommodation: There are no lodging facilities near the glacier itself. Most visitors stay in El Calafate town. During peak seasons (December to January), holidays and weekends, rooms can be in high demand.
Food: Argentinians generally enjoy European-style Western cuisine, favoring beef, lamb, and pork. One uniquely characteristic drink is called “mate.”
