On the 7th, the 10th Xiamen Marathon concluded, with Kenyan athlete Peter winning the men's title and breaking the event record, while the women's champion went to Ethiopian runner Kasim. For the first time, Chinese female runners failed to secure any medals, with the best result being Jin Lingling’s 6th place.
In the men's event, the African contingent led throughout the race. Chinese runner Yan Longfei was briefly in contention but faded in the latter stages and was overtaken by the Africans. The battle for the title was mainly between Kenya and Ethiopia, with Kenyan athlete Peter making a late surge to cross the finish line first in 2:07:37, breaking the event record. In addition to the $40,000 champion's prize, Peter also received a $15,000 bonus for breaking the record.
The women's event was also dominated by African runners. Ethiopian athlete Kasim won in 2:23:09, securing Ethiopia’s third consecutive title. Her time was just shy of the event record of 2:22:38 set by Zhang Yingying. Chinese female runners, who had previously dominated with seven straight titles, had a poor showing this time and missed out on medals for the first time, with Jin Lingling achieving the best result in 6th place.
