300,000 km cycled in five years — equivalent to circling the Earth eight times
Against the backdrop of promoting a “low-carbon lifestyle” across society, cycling as a means of transportation has become increasingly popular in Jincheng. According to information from the city’s Cycling Association New Year gathering held on January 7, since its establishment in 2007, the association’s more than 400 members have cumulatively cycled over 300,000 km in the past five years, equivalent to circling the Earth eight times.
On the afternoon of January 7, the city’s Cycling Association hosted its 2012 “Happy Cycling, Green Living” New Year gathering. With award ceremonies, riddles, skits, interactive games, cycling experience exchanges, and discussions about new journeys and adventures, over 300 cycling enthusiasts spent a delightful afternoon together.
Since its establishment in 2007, the Jincheng City Cycling Association has upheld the lifestyle philosophy of “sports, health, environmental protection, and low carbon.” It has now developed 11 specialized cycling teams, including Qidian, Lüye, and Qingfeng, and has registered 450 members. The members have undertaken over 300 recorded cycling activities, promoting Jincheng along the way and traveling across the country, with their cumulative mileage surpassing 300,000 km — equivalent to circling the Earth eight times. In 2011 alone, the association recorded 82 cycling events, covering a total of 108,663 km. Last June, three female members — Wang Guomin, Li Meili, and Sun Haiyan — also cycled all the way to Tibet, marking the first time such a feat has been accomplished in Jincheng.
