On January 30th, the post-holiday Silk Road Ski Resort was bustling with energy. Ski enthusiasts and fans from Beijing and Xinjiang welcomed their idol — Wang Lei, known as the “Number One Snowboarder in China.”
Wang Lei brought a group of snowboard enthusiasts from Beijing to Xinjiang for a trial run this time, aiming to lay the foundation for future collaboration with Xinjiang, as well as to promote snowboarding in the region. That day, Wang Lei and the enthusiasts also put on an impressive performance at the Silk Road Ski Resort. He said that Xinjiang’s seasonal characteristics and snow quality are very suitable for snowboarding, and he hopes local enthusiasts will increase their understanding of the sport, organize more events, and get more people involved in this beneficial activity.
The reporter learned that Wang Lei started snowboarding in 1997, initially teaching himself by watching videotapes. As a leading figure in China’s snowboarding scene, the 33-year-old has achieved the best result ever recorded by a Chinese snowboarder in a global event on the international circuit.
