The fifth round of the 2012 Hong Kong Off-Road Cycling Race kicked off on January 29 at Tai Ping Shan in Hong Kong, with over 60 cycling enthusiasts participating in the event to compete for the first championship title of the Year of the Dragon.
The course circled around Tai Ping Shan, with each lap spanning 1.8 kilometers. The mountainous terrain was rugged, narrow, and even strewn with gravel, significantly increasing the difficulty of the race. After the start, riders first tackled a steep incline, followed by a series of downhill sections. Naturally, cyclists seized the opportunity to show off their skills, with many performing jumps and wheelies along the way.
Among the six categories, the Open Division featured a strong lineup of elite riders, including both current and former members of the Hong Kong national team, making for intense competition. Former Hong Kong representative Choi King-man quickly distanced himself from his rival Jiang Zixing in the early stages to establish a lead, and ultimately cruised to victory by completing the 12-lap race in 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 29 seconds to cross the finish line and claim the championship.
